An ecstatic Jericho Rosales could not hide his excitement upon learning the good news.

“I love you @nbff!!! You guys are my bffs now!”, the actor tweeted after he was informed that he had just won the Outstanding Achievement in Acting Award from his new Best Friends Forever, the Newport Beach Film Festival for the film “Alagwa (Breakaway)”.
In a report posted at DailyPilot.com, Jericho was being driven through Los Angeles when his publicist Monica Busby relayed the news about his victory.

Reacting to his win, the 33-year-old actor was quoted in the same report to have said:
“Holy smokes — I’m so stoked. This award means that a piece of the puzzle of my dream is coming together … it means that us Filipinos can make it out here … it’s a confirmation of my faith…I’m blown away. I leave Newport Beach with a great memory and souvenir”.
With his recognition, Jericho finds himself in the elite company of Hollywood actors who were also honored in the film festival. These include Michael Shannon (“The Iceman”) and Onata Aprile (“What Maisse Knew”) who also won Outstanding Achievement for Acting awards as well as Sam Rockwell (“A Single Shot”) and Diane Kruger (“Fly Me To The Moon”) who won Jury Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.
This is actually the second time that Jericho won acting honors in the same film festival. In 2011, he won the same award for the US indie film “Subject: I Love You” which featured a mix of Hollywood and Filipino actors that included Briana Evigan, Dean Cain, Tirso Cruz III, Gary Valenciano, Joel Torre and Apl.de.Ap.

This time, the victory is even sweeter as Jericho himself not only starred but co-produced the film that deals with the subject of human trafficking.
Written and directed by Ian Loreños, “Alagwa” was earlier entered and screened at international film festivals in Busan, Cambodia, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Palm Springs and the Asian International Film Festival in Malaysia.

Established in 1999, the California-based Newport Beach Film Festival has been bringing the best of classic and contemporary filmmaking from around the world. The festival screens over 400 films in its eight-day span and attracts an average of 52,000 attendees every year.

Back here at home, “Alagwa” is doing just as well in the awards circuit. After a special screening at the 2012 Cinema One Originals Film Festival, the film was nominated for several categories in various giving bodies and won five awards in the recent Star Awards for Movies, including Indie Movie of the Year, Indie Director of the Year and Child Performer of the Year for Bugoy Cariño.

Personally attending each international film festival where the film was accepted, Jericho was known to have sacrificed a lot for “Alagwa”, including dropping high-profile projects such as the upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye “Against All Odds” (Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala)” that would have given him a chance to star with Judy Ann Santos. He was eventually replaced by John Estrada.

The actor earlier tweeted that he plans to have a commercial theatrical run for “Alagwa” very soon.
